Question about diatoms

Diatoms will usually go away on their own provided their food source is exhausted. If you are using tap water the problem may never go away.
Aside from using a scrubber on the glass you can try Mexican Turbo Snails if your cycle is finished (and diatoms can be a hint that it is or coming to a finish). They are big so I wouldn't get too many of them. I had a diatom bloom for 4 or 5 days before I put in some turbos; after about 3 days they had eaten pretty much all of it.

I have had a problem with brown algae in the past. I got rid of it buy using a sponge and wiping from the sand to the top of the tank and washing of the algae in a sink. Do this every swipe up. This should help. My algae problem went away in a couple of days. Also I would do a water change. Imo I would not use any chemicals, Unless you really need to.
