Question about Filter

Can someone tell me how the Rainbow Lifegard Fluidized Bed 300 hooks up?
I am not happy with the canister filter sold to me by LFS.
I have a bac pak 2 and still need a filter for the FOWLR 100 gal tank. I did not set up a sump per advice again, and need to either hang on equipment or put inside tank?
Please help.
Thanks

You could still do a sump, I think. That's what I'm getting into right now.
I have a 46 bow, and I run a fluval cannister for some carbon, a little biomax, and if I need to run some phosphate remover. Cannister filter adds about 300gph flow too.
Now I bought an 18g tank to create a sump/fuge and overflow box. Finally I will get rid of my heater and skimmer in the display tank. Maybe even get rid of a ph too!
What kind of cannister did you get? I love the fluval 305!

Marineland C360.... I used to have SW tank years ago and the old Fluval was a pain, but I hear the new one is great!
I consider myself a complete beginner and have NO CLUE since what I had was a LONG time ago .... can a sump be set up without drilling my existing tank set up?
Thanks for the reply and help!

Yes, this is what I am doing. Don't feel "lost" as I am completely lost on building this sump. But with lots of questions asked, I am becoming more and more understanding. I have a thread going right now where I'm getting some advice on putting my sump together. "Help with sump design" I believe is the title, and near the top of the forum right now. You will need to buy an overflow box, like I did. They work off of siphon and are pretty dependable. I will be building this here over the next few weeks. I already bought most the equipment and now have to design the baffles and silicone them in. I'm really excited about it becasue of the added water volume and getting the equipment out of my display tank.
And you're right, the new fluvals work great! I really suggest you do some study and reading on the sump/fuge and maybe you can work one in yourself like me. Trust me, if I can end up doing it, anyone can.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Frank...seems no one else would help.
I have done some reading, and realuize the benefits, and looked at the pictures, but none of thenm show how they go into and out of the tank itself.... that is where i am really lost. Most of the detailed pictures show the set up perfectly but still don't show or say where the in and out lines are and if they are drilled in the tank or if there is another way without drilling.
Best of luck with your project, will keep watching to see what you do!
Thanks again

dgee, You don't need to drill your tank. Simply buy an overflow box that hangs on the back of your tank that is rated for your tank size. I bought ESHOPPS which you can do a google search and goto their website and find the right size for your tank. Then buy a return pump that matches that overflow box. Everyone will probably suggest a mag 5... I got the Quiet One 2200 because it was $30 cheaper and a dependable return pump. This much I do know... and anyone correct me if need be,
1. Hang overflow box on back of tank. Then attach flexible hosing to the bottom and let it hang down into one side of your sump.
2. Set up baffles (I'm still learning how to do this... but you need the zig zag for bubble trap. The middle section would be a fuge (place for sand and macro algae, some snails and hermits)
3. Put your skimmer in the intake (where your water enters the sump).
4. the final section will be the return pump. This is where some people appear to be using some eggcrate to keep the fuge and return chamber water volume together, thus reducing evaporaton a little.
5. I am using 3/4" flexible tubing from the return pump back to the tank and an elbow diffuser to let water enter the tank.
From here, I think you fill the sump up, and begin the siphon on the overflow box. Once it begins, plug in the return pump and you should have your sump going! Then you can move your heater into the refugium chamber. I would continue to use your canister for some carbon/phosphate remover... pluss you probably get good flow off your canister. Between the canister and return pump, you might need one more ph moving some water around. Now you've added water volume to your system, hidden equipment in your sump, and added a fuge to fight against bad algae's in your tank!
This is my base of knowledge, and of course trying to learn more in the next couple of weeks.
I still have to buy an Acqua C Urchin (just connect pump and plug in, no plumbing) protein skimmer, it's small sized so that the intake chamber doesn't have to be too big to place it in. That way the fuge area can be as big as possible.
I need to get a grow light for my fuge area as well. Get the baffles measured and cut at lowe's and I should be good to put it together. I'm probably a couple of weeks from being done just because I'm so busy at work.
Believe me, you can do it. Again, I have no idea what I'm doing, but if so many can do it themselves, I can too!

Wow....I actually understood all that!!!!! THANK YOU so much for taking the time to explain the details. I think that light bulb just went on and I have a chance...
we all have to start somewhere. I just want to do it as close to right the first time ...
Sounds like you know much more than you THINK you do! Share the pictures or details when you're done.
Thanks Frank
