Question about Iodide

I just got my Salifert Iodine test kit. The test on my water has raised a number of questions and hopefully someone here understands the chemistry a lot better than I do and can help.
The first part of the test is Iodide. The test states that if the color turns blue, purple or black the concentration is far above 0.2 pip. Mine was dark purple so my Iodide is very high. What should I do to lower it other than water changes?
The second part is combined Iodated and Iodine. The results here were below the lowest reading on the chart or below 0.03.
Can anyone give me advice here on what action I should take based on the test results above? I will rerun the test again tomorrow just make sure it wasn’t my testing procedure.

You should do some water changes if it is high...

I supplemented it once a while back but have done two 20% and 2 or 3 5% water changes since. I also used tap water for my first fill. Why would some of the iodine's be high and some low?

Iodate builds up very slowly unless you are specifically dosing it. My guess would be that your supplement contained Iodide.
