Hi guys, It's time to swap out the PC's again. question about actinics
I have a 10 gal setup w 2 18W 50/50 PC's, so about 3.6 watts per gallon. I am considering doing 1 50/50 and 1 full actinic in the hope that this will stimulate my coraline algae to grow quicker and boost color in gereral in the tank. any thoughts?
At the moment I have 1 goby, pep. Shrimp, condy anemone, mushrooms, rics & feather dusters. Looking at expanding into soft corals w low lighting needs..let me know if anyone has any experience with this.
Thanks,
R.

If you enjoy the very blue/pink look then that should be fine. I'm not sure it's going to increase the coralline growth though. Be very careful that you get a bulb that is actually using phosphors to produce actinic light and not the 6700k blue bulbs. The blue bulbs filter out most of the light and are not useful for reef tanks.

Also, I supplement w B-Ionic 1&2 daily, anything else you can recommend to boost Coraline growth? I used to use Purple Up but I noticed growth hit a wall after about 6mo.

Those bulbs will work fine. Like I mentioned though it's going to look rather blue in the tank.
When dosing ALK and Ca be sure to test to prevent overdosing. Contrary to popular belief more is not better.
A lot of waterflow and low Phosphate are also helpful for coralline.
