Question About The Maxi-Jet

I love them. I have a 600 and a 1200 on my 55 gal. For a 240 I would probably say you need at least 4 of the 900's but you really need to determine what gph you want in water turnover and what your strategic placement should be according to your lr placement, inhabitants that like less/more current etc. HTH an I'm jealous, wish I had a 240;)

Go to http://www.garf.org and under the bullet proof reef setting choose calculator. OK, I'll save you the time. Under quantity it says 'lots.'
I have 2 of the 1200s on my 75 (plus one for the skimmer) and one of the 400s. I also have three powersweeps. I'll take the Maxijets anyday.

MaxiJet is one of the best power head out there.
When I setting up my new large tank, I don't like the look of power cord all over tank.
1 or 2 power cord is ok but more do not look very good.
If I was planning doing your 240 G tank get something like MagDrive 1 -2 of them and attach with Oscillator/Rotator/Pulser.
It's a bit expensive but it will give you the pleasant view.

RoGeTA 2 1200's will be plenty for a 55 IMO. Ever since I upgraded the one 1200 I have along with a 600, I have a Bubbletip that can't find a comfy spot wihout too much current. I've had to mess with the rock and the ph to get some lower current areas.

Maxi-jets are darn good pumps. Lightweight, small and unobtrusive, noiseless, versatile. I actually have 6 in my 72gal! However, I am running a natural filtration system, and these PHs are my only sources for circulation in the tank.
The 1200 is the highest gph, and it gives you a nice thrust of water stream, but it is not the most powerful. You will either need to place several throughout tank, have alternative water movement going in addition to these, or get more powerful PHs.
The 2 for $35 is a deal at that site, but the charge for just 1 pump is not a bargain. Shop around.

Does anyone use the powersweeps. I am going to replace my reo's with maxijets and was maybe going to use 1 powersweep in place of one of the maxi jets.

replacing the RIO with the MaxiJet is a great idea.
Use 1 of the PowerSweep is a bad idea.
stay away from it if you could. I have one PowerCheap sitting on my deck.

what is the head presure at 4' for Little Giant pump?
Most of pply prefered 10-15 x the tank volume for a reef tank.
240 G = 2400 GPH - 3600 GPH
what do you want to keep?
if it is a fish only tank, that shouldn't be a problem

MaxiJet is the best powerhead out there. I have 3 1200's that are about 1 year old. I have not done maint. on them and they still work perfectly, even though they are connected to a Wavemaster.
