i wanted to obtain a small humu humu trigger for my new tank that i'm setting up. i'm not too close or too far away from adding fish to it. i'm still new to the saltwater world, and was wondering if there was anyone out there who could help me understand better. like which tankmates would be best suited for the little guy (trying to keep everyone small). what the best creature i could having roaming the floor picking at things. probably all simple stuff to you, but i've had all freshwater til now. so if anyone could steer me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. thanks!

Howdy!!! Ya know, that cute little Huma-Huma could very well turn into a beast!!! They are pretty mean triggers in my experience. Of course each animal has a different temperament. I have had Niger triggers that were very sweet and personable! I kept my Triggers with a nice Black Volitan Lionfish, ik you can find one! Stonefish are pretty different, they dont move around a WHOLE lot, and, also, they are venomous! Eels are cool with triggers. Maybe a LARGE wrasse. Just remember, nothing small. Do a lot of research, thats the key!!!

Research everything before you buy. Don't just ask about some fish on these forums, you really should read a good book before you begin. You may realize that you can get some other really cool creatures that you want that you will not be able to get because you have those triggers.
I think you would also get more responses if you put it in the correct section of the forums, not tips and techniques. It should really go under agressive fish forum.
Remember, also - you will not be able to have any corals or inverts at all because triggers will kill and eat them.

I love the picasso, however in my 125 aggressive it ended up being TOO aggressive. If you do end up getting it, just be aware that it will not stay cute and small. As for tank mates, anything that moves slow such as puffers and lions, will most likely get beat up. They WILL also rearrange your substrate, bite chunks off your live rock, and even bite the glass of your DT...

If your profile is current; and you have only a 25 gal tank, I'm afraid your fish choices are quite limited. I wouldn't even consider any type of trigger in a tank that small. Every lfs seems to have cute little huma & niger triggers; but they turn into very aggressive, large, genuine triggers and need a lot of room.

My humu humu is around 4 1/2 - 5 inches and is a terrorist. Between him and the Niger they keep the tank devoid of snail/crab's . If you do only have a 25 gallon tank please do not attempt any triggers .

As usual, El Gaupo, your avitar is great! (Good advice, too.)

So we know your 25 gallon tank is too small for any trigger. So what features or qualitites are you looking for in your new aquarium? Maybe we can help you find a nice combination that will make you happy.
For instance, do you want to concentrate on just fish or do you want a reef? If you also want a reef, what kind of lighting do you have? What filtration do you have?
We're here to help you be succesful, enjoy your tank, and keep your livestock happy and alive, but we need a little more info please.

I would like to vote for a painted angler for him. very pretty and you could put a few damsels in there with it ( of course it would probably eat them? but hey they would add color)

I have a small Humu Humu trigger- He's in a tank right now with an angel fish, a royal gramma, 2 clownfish and a box fish. I added a smaller fish to the fish family and my trigger ate him. He picks up sand in his mouth and spits it out all over my LR-he is messy. I will probably have to trade him in when I decide to add more fish to my tank. I dont want to take any chances on buying an expensive fish and my trigger eating him. They are really beautiful fish-but definitely belong in a larger more agrressive type tank.
