question about water temps

After setting up my sump I've noticed something kinda wierd that I'm sure someone (probably that repository of interesting facts, Broomer) could rationalize for me. My house A/C is set for 77, and 77 is where it stays, why is the sump consistantly holding at 72-73? Just strikes me as a bit odd. I mean, evaporation should account for a small varience but 7-8 degrees seems a bit much, especially considering there is NO circulation in the system yet, basically just a plastic tub filled with water
Thanks,
Paul

Are you using the same thermometer for water and air measurment - or looking at the one on the thermostat and comparing that temp reading to a submerged sump thermometer ?

 OMG!
Also, just to make sure, I checked the indoor portion to the wall thermostat and the outdoor probe portion to a old-fashioned "hold under the tongue" type.
*sigh*

P.S. hey Broomer, bet you wish you had to have your A/C running about now huh? LOL

Hey wait !!!
Is the sump sitting on a concrete slab ? LOL
How long has the "tub" of water / sump been filled up ?
What temperature was the water you filled it up with ?
Is my AC off here in Toledo - absolutely.
Is my house still here in Toledo after Sunday's storms - yes.
Am I still stumped - nahhhhh ~ most everything can be explained if ya know all the factors ;)

Unless you use the same thermometer to take all of your temperature readings - error is always possible between any two measuring devices.
The "one" thermometer used as the standard - may still be off regarding it's absolute accuracy - but at least it would be a repeatable error between various readings.

woooo hooooo :D
Journal entry Tuesday November 12th, 2002: My faith in mankind, and by association Broomer, has been restored.
Okay let's see ....
Sump Elevated from floor 5.5 inches ... check
Display tank not even hooked up yet much less plumbed to sump ... check
Absolutely no air or water bubbles in sump ... check
Display tank in garage empty ... check
Glad Broomer's house and all okay after storm ... check
Trying to stump Broomer ... priceless

MELBOURNE, FLA. Nov. 30, 2001 —The Florida Tech Remote Sensing and Marine Environmental Optics Laboratory has received three radiation instruments valued at $10,000. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, in Miami, made the donation.
The instruments will be used for teaching and research. They include a Barnes Engineering PRT-5 (Precision Radiation Thermometer) infrared radiometer, which can measure the temperature of an object without touching it.
"These instruments are most welcome here and will be used for years to come," said Dr. George Maul, head of the Florida Tech Department of Marine and Environmental Systems.
