Question about wattage...

Can you run a 175 watt metal halide using a 250 watt ballast??

From what I've been told you cannot run 175's on 250's. I couldn't tell you exactly why just that you can't.

you might be able to run the bulb but you'll probably damage either the bulb or the ballast...or both...don't do it

Well, I wasn't gonna do it myself. I was wondering because a lot of people want MH's now but don't want 250's if they don't need them...BUT they might need them down the road.. and to avoid another upgrade, I was wondering. So, I guess there is no easy solution.

The reflector, houseing unit, etc. are all still good. Its normally easy to switch them over by picking up a new bulb, ballast, and a bit of wiring.
