""question"" boards

sorry sharks but i feel this needs to be put to and end. these boards arent ment to talk trash. its the complete opposite. i just read a thread (not to mention wich one or any names) but some people feel they can instigate an arguement. and patience is a virtue. so if you can wait longer than 15 mins. for someone to reply to a post then you shouldnt be posting anything anyways, let alone have a saltwater tank. i have been told that many many times... it takes time ;)
sorry for the inconvience

I agree Nate J.. I get tired of seeing the same people argue. It isn't fair for us other members.. Please do something about it....

This is true, and it is unfortunate. While I and others can be mean to some people who come in on the board and tell us things like "I have a 29 gallon with 15 lbs. lr, 2 tangs and a mandarin, please tell me what I can add, but I don't want to hear about me having too many fish", we get mad. It's also annoying when people ask us questions and refuse to listen to our advice, then ask the same questions over and over again. We don't try to pick fights (the mass of us). However, it seems that I have done something to make one of the moderators mad lately and she has seemed to have it out for me and my posts ever since? Hallucinating maybe? I hope so.

yes, just like jwtrojan44 was saying some people get hot tempered often and seem to reply several time to one thread (ex: is my tank over stocked....next post : its a 75 gal....next: i have blah blah blah fish in it.) it just gets annoying and makes people man when there is continuous arguements on posts. IMO

Jillian, I am confused. Both Beth and I closed (not deleted) some of your Oscar threads, and it was explained why...and I know I tried to answer one or two as well. This does not mean that anyone 'has it out for you.' There are board rules, and some posts that really don't belong. If it had been an "OT: Oscars" thread, just one, then that would have been considered. However, simply adding OT does not automatically mean the thread is 'safe' so to speak.
When we determine that one should be closed, for whatever reason, and close it, only to find it restarted, then restarted again, etc., then that is another issue. Indeed, it will seem like someone is out to get you when they are all closed in succession. In fact, we are just being consistent. It becomes a problem if we said "oh, well, this was posted for the third time so maybe she really means it and we'll leave it open." The posts were all actually left open for some time, perhaps not as long as you would have like, but then closed.
I counted six separate threads related to the same basic issue (bogwood, disappearing fish, 2 separate tank setup- 1 in reefs, 1 in fish, and then the OT one on the same issue...along with one on the LFS which also related to the same thing).
This was just too much...but yes, if they are all closed, it may give the impression that someone has it out for you when it is not so. We don't always make the right decisions or the same decisions, but we do try to keep things running smoothly.

This is not aimed at anyone in particular. But good protocol on this BB for everyone to consider is:
Common courtesy to everyone, even if some people are not on your “most liked” list.
Refrain from answering questions as if you know the answer when you really don’t. If you think you know the answer and want to post a response, then say, “I think this is the answer, but please double check a reference book, or with someone else on the BB who knows more….” ETC.
Don’t be a bore and continuously ask the same question over and over waiting until someone finally tells you what you want to hear, rather than what you need to hear.
Don’t bash others, even if you can’t stand them. There is always a way to get your point across without verbally roughing the person up or publicly insulting them.
Keep OT’s to a minimum. This is a SW BB. We used to have an OT Forum dedicated to OTs. However, the BB owners want this to be a SW discussion forum pretty much. While a few OTs are allowed, they should be sparingly used.
Don’t take things here personally. This is just a BB for hobby sharing. Yeah, its nice that we have an online community for us hobbyists, but hopefully most of us [except the mods :D] actually have a life outside of SWF.com. ;)
