hi bet, i recently spoke to you about my ich problem. all fish have died, if i let my tank run empty for a few weeks with no lights on and drop the temp will the ich die off. i still have around 80 lbs of live rock in there. i do not have the equipment to run a hypo, nor do i have anywhere to put my live rock. so if i just leave my tank empty of fish will i beat the ich?

leave your tank empty for 30 days and that should give the ich time to run its life cycle and die off. im no expert tho so i would wait for someone who knows for sure.

No need to turn off the lights or drop the temp. Just leave the tank wo fish or anything that has been exposed to fish for 4 weeks.

No, you cannot treat a tank using hyposalinity that has live rock.

ich will live in live rock. so if u had ich in your last tank chances r that u will have it in your new tank. the best thing to do is take your live rock out and let it soak in fresh water that is same temp for 15 min. that will kill any living ich. And from now on either set up a hosital tank or do a fresh water dip prior to intoducing any new fish 2 your establishment.

This will also kill the LR. Opps, there goes a few hundred bucks......

I hate to be rude but please do some research befor giving advise. As beth stated leave it with out life for 4 weeks and you should be ok. I know alot of folks including beth don't like it but I have had great sucsses with kick ich it is reef safe and will kill off the ick on your fish in 2 weeks I always keep it on hand never know when you might bring a fish in with ich and have a break out.

in all the reading i have done i have found it to be ich needs a host to survive in the tank A fish host the paresite cannot feed from LR so it will starve to death and die off after 30 days hense the reason we remove fish to a qt if we can when they get ich.as beth stated you dont need to change anything just let it run empty for 4 weeks before restocking.

There is another product called Ick Attack. It is 100% natural. I have never used kick ich before. If you didn't want to use it I would try Ick Attack. All it is are a bunch of herbs and stuff. It seems to be working on my tank. My Tang is eating and swimming around now. I have only been using it for 2 days. BUT, I have also heard that Kick Ich is really good. It all depends on how you want to treat the tank. I would not take the live rock out.

sorry to butt guys but i started the thread over a month ago, i have since switched tanks and been running empty ever since. i think the ich is gone by now but now i have to wait for the tank to clear up, then move the rock where i want and wait for cloudiness to go away again.
