Question For Beth

Hi Beth,
Im starting my 125 over again after 9 months.I was ready to quit a while back but decided to wait and see my Rock has been in qt all that time >reg water changes/feeding for pods and such.
I tore my whole tank down emptied/scrubbed no bleach though.
I have all new sand new water got rid of all old equipment started fresh.
Here's my question:> new water/sand have been in tank for a week. Im going to put my live rock back in today. Am I starting off like I did 2 years ago not enough bacteria ect...am I going to cycle ? is it safe to add fish right away?
My most important question is this: I love tangs >hippos
If I have a clean system "which I hope I do after all this"
and I do not introduce Ich into my system by qt/meds/and qt >everything wet.
6 weeks.Even if fish gets stressed/ect..... I should never see ich right? or am I not understanding?
I have a qt tank 30 gallons I am going to use cupramine even if no Ich present.<that's my plan.>a lot of people may not agree but this is my 3rd time around tried hypo didn't work.
I don't want to take any chances if I have to go through that again "I will quit the hobby"! Im not in this to kill fish and I get attached to them so quickly as I'm sure we all do I already killed dori if thats not bad enough lol
I've read so much on Ich/velvet and a still lost! a lot of people say stress can bring it on a lot of people say if it was not introduced you will never see it ?
If you can give me your opinion that would be great!
and again Thank You for your "Time" you've been a great help to all of us here!

Where is the spell checker thing? lol

Yes, you do need to allow your tank time to settle in before adding fish. If you used a lot of live sand along with the well-established live rock you have, then you may not experience any cycle at all. However, that is not an invitation to dump fish into a new tank. The micro fauna and bacteria on your live rock and live sand need to be given ample time to populate your system free of predators or stressors. Taking care of this step in setting up a system is extremely important to success.

If you exercise appropriate quarantine of all new fish, then ich being introduced to your system should not be an issue. Keep in mind that rock, hard-shelled inverts such as snails, crabs, can also carry ich into a system—basically any hard surface object, animal, rock, etc., can carry ich into your system. So, when getting new live rock, or inverts, just consider what system they have been exposed to.

Many take that route, and it’s your decision. Just so you know that there is at least anecdotal evidence that tangs exposed to copper are more susceptible to HLLE (Head and Lateral Line Erosion). Were you using a refractometer when you tried hyposalinity before?

Ich is not exactly the world’s greatest mystery. It is just a parasite. Like all parasites, it needs a host to survive. Fish. Stress does not cause ich; it can make an already infected fish much, much worse. Once ich is eradicated and your fish have not been re-exposed, no amount of stress is going to make a fish “get ich”.

The sand I used is not live I was going to go that route but could not find a light enough color at the lfs I wanted white so I got the dry bags in white.
I have to qt my new fish anyways so 6 weeks should be good enough I got some cycle I'm going to throw that in their to seed my new fluval bio rings. My live rock has been sitting for 9 months so I don't think theirs any Ich left.
Don't worry I'm going to qt everything! I also have a problem though I had such a hard time keeping ammonia, nitrite down
and now I don't even have an established tank do take the water from for W.changes to help bacteria <<<this is my biggest problem with qt.And I think this contributed to my fish dying. Can I 2 small tangs 1" in a 30 gallon and be able to control water amm/nitrite? how much water changes daily or every other to be safe? I used amquel last time and it threw my test kits off.
No I did not use a refractometer< I know I used the bobbing one? dont know what their called "not the swing arm"
but yeah I had no time my fish were not good "on their side"
and it was last minute so slowly I tried it but had to stop because fish were getting worse Im in no way saying hypo itself didnt work! I'm saying it didn't work for me because "Error on my part" I waited to long and I had issues with water quality.
So I don't have to worry about Ich again as long as I follow qt with everything! Thats good to hear it's just confusing because people with hippos say "Ive had this fish for months I qt him and all of a sudden he has Ich"? confusing.
Qt tank is my biggest fear because if I can keep water param safe Id be ok but I could never keep them in check even with water changes.
Thanks for answering all my questions I know i have a lot so Thank You!
