Question for the clown breeders

Clowns with misbars. Why are they like that?? Is it because mom and dad were from the same batch or does that matter. Fish from the same batch bond/mate right?? Should this be discouraged or is it natural for them?

well i have a breeding pair, i havent hatched any of them yet but plan to sometime in the future
clowns can have missing bars any time, not just becuase they are inbread, its kinda like a blue hippo, their markings are never the same they always very to some degree, my female maroon clown all 3 of her stripes only run half way down her body where my males run the full lenght (up and down)

I understand that they have misbars. BUt some people/sites have way to many and simply refer to them as being tank bred clowns.
But still I ask, are a pair from the same batch OK as far as breeding goes, or would a responsible breeder get 2 different clowns from 2 different parents? Like you would with dogs or cats etc...

this question is real in depth because u are talking genetics
i would say the odds would serve you better if u just find 2 with any kind of misbar. but one smaller than the other.
i mean when i go to the LFS they have like 20 percs in a single tank and you see all kind of markings and still if i see 1 small misbar and 1 big misbar, and i wanted misbar fry. i would just pick them out. whos to say if they are brother and sister, they change --- anyway.

Lemme ask another way, cause I am certainly not trying to breed misbarred clowns, (unless I could go jigsaw...) but anyway, what I mean is...
If a responsible breeder wants to breed dogs, he certainly doesn't take a male and female from the same litter.
Is it the same for fish. If I wanted to be a responsible clownfish breeder, then are my "parent clowns" supposed to be from different lots??
Take Bang Guy for instance, he breeds clowns. If I wanted to buy some from him and start breeding myself, would I buy 2 from the same "litter" or would I specifically ask for 2 from different batches.
Disclosure here... I am not interested in breeding clowns in the least, I am just curious for this info.

once again genetics is a tricky subject
so if u want the best of the best you go for the best bloodline (like gatti or razor edge for pitbulls) it may not be from the same litter/fry but you pick the best of the best from that bloodline to give you the best possible odds for success.

tizzo i am with you on that subject, i would prechase one from your LFS and find another from a web site as clown breeders normally flood the area with baby clowns and all the stores around that area are probly selling babys from the same parents.
my maroons will lay between 800-1500 eggs each time they spawn and as close to every 12 days so say i get on avg. 2 spawns a month lets say that a avg. of 2000 eggs a month, and then i get a 30% servival thats 600 baby clowns to sell EVERY MONTH so you cans ee how almost every fish breeder will flood a area with babys.
alot of the times when you see alot of the same clowns in the same tank they are brother and sisters, i have a friend that used to breen FW fish and he would sell them for .25 each but would have thousands to sell, he would inbreed and says it dosent really matter he did it to get the colors he wanted all thought freash water fish are alot easier to breed then saltwater and im unsure if inbreeding saltwater would make more deformd fish rather than if they was from a diffrent gene line
but a answer to your question would be if you ever think your going to want to get into breeding i would go with 2 fish that you knew for sure where not related, like 1 that was tank raised and one wild and the fish store should be willing to tell you where they got their fishes, as in if they where from the ocean and which part and if they was from a local breeder although im sure they will not give you the name or number to the breeder hahahaha

You mean I won't get AMC papers?? (aquacultured marine ceritified?) haha
Thanks, you answered it. I was wondering mostly because of all of the people who DO want to breed. They go and find, as you said, two babies from the same tank and they are most likely siblings. I was simply wondering if this should be discouraged in the long run or not, so thanks!

If you wanted to keep a certain trait it's OK to breed from the same batch but the likelyhood of genetic problems increases.
If I wanted to breed the healthiest fish possible I would be more likely to obtain fish from different breeders or wild caught (shudder).

Thanks.
I do not wanna breed clowns, and I don't wanna buy yours, but I was curious if the "persuit for perfection" of the breed included fish, and if so, do siblings meet that requirement.
So thanks for the answer.

For your original question, I'm not convinced mis-bar Clownfish is a genetic trait. IMO it's a nutrient deficiency during metamorphasis.

I was curious about the same thing, so thanks for asking, Tizzo.
That's a very interesting thought on the mis-bars, Bang Guy. I always assumed it was a genetic mutation, but you very well could be right about a nutritional deficiency. Not that it's a good thing, but overall, it seems like that would be the better option of the two.
