Tangman . . . thanks for the information. I knew some of it, at least the "4 C's" info, but I never understood what the percentages meant.
How would I go about finding a diamond broker in my area? Any suggestions?
you can email me if you'd like . . .

when your wife or fiance is with her friends- they compare diamonds like we compare fish or fish tanks.
(the attitute with my g/f almost reminds me of guys comparing- well you know what)
you might have a perfect diamond, but if it is small and expensive, her friends will look at it and say, "well yes it looks beautiful" (and they are thinking, ya but its tiny and I have larger stones on my ears)
It is better to get a larger stone, although make sure that it does not look like urine yellow

btw, i just noticed that you were asking the ladies- opps

I tend to agree.
Keep in mind a few things. One the size of her hands. If she has tiny hands (like Me) you don't want to get her a large diamond that will overpower her hand. You would want a size that would complitment her hand.
2cd, What will the wedding band look like?
I've seen dominque diamonds that are on QVC that are pretty nice. NO ONE knows the difference. I have one that my husband gave me for our anniversary. I didn't mind. Woman are funny that way. If it's small and real then what's the sense in it at all? If it's Medium size like quarter Carot and real it's ok. Larger is ok then you take the risk of another lady wanting to bite your finger off to take it or she will automatically think that it's fake then your back to square 1.

go shopping and buy what you REALLY LOVE....chances are good that she will REALLY LOVE it too. Diamonds aren't a good investment, so don't think about that. Think about what will make YOU happy to give her! (She'll be happy if you are happy, and if not....is she the right one?) Good Luck!

Well I am actually about to pop the question to my girlfriend next week (going to the beach for a week so thought it would be a decent time). I just went through the whole thing of searching for the "right" ring and came to a couple of conclusions. I thought that the bigger the better and all of those sayings but when I finally started looking at actual diamonds realized that many times the smaller diamond but with higher quality ended up being much better looking. Personally, I ended up using my grandmothers old diamond. The diamond itself is only 3/4ths a carat and at first I thought that it wouldnt be big enough because I see all of this other people with giant rings on their hands. It ended up, at least from what I was told, was that the older the diamond usually the better quality it is becuase obviously they use to be more abundant but we are using more and more. Long story short my grandmothers diamond ending up being appraised at over $4500 due to its quality. I ended up just having to get a setting for the diamond and couldnt be happier with the ring. I know a couple other people said establish a relationship with your jewler this couldnt be more true. I have actually known the jeweler I went through for some time and they ended up giving me ridiculous deals on everything. Not saying that will happen for everyone but it is always good to obviously do business with someone you can trust.

Yeah, I have the majority of it planned out. We are going to her house Thursday where I hope to muster up the courage to talk to her dad or the whole thing doesnt happen at the beach. Then we are going to the beach on Sunday from her parents house, probably just go watch the sun set and ask her during it. Really cant thiink of anything much more creative. Funny cause she has been yelling at me lately saying i need to stop getting things for the fish tank and by her a ring. I dont think she has any idea.

jocoxVT, that sounds like a wonderful way to pop the question. Whatever way you do it, she will love it. Just a suggestion though~ Personally I would love to have the guy get on one knee and propose, we women wait for that our whole lives. Oh man this is a really cute thread. Good luck, and let us know how it goes! ~Ali:cheer:

When you are at the beach find a place that sells some sort of oranement that you can give to her as a holiday present after you are married to signify when she changed your life.
My hubby asked me to marry him outside of a Starbucks in the pouring rain. He got on one knee while I was yellin at him that I was gettin wet before I realized what was going on. He made a heartfelt speach on what i ment to him. We have a little Starbucks Christmas oranament on our tree and everytime I see it I smile and think back to 5/3/97!
Its the little things that will get us everytime!

I sold this stuff for a couple of years. A must for you gold lovers make sure the stone is set in a white gold head the band can be yellow gold but the head needs to be white because diamonds absorb colors around it light reflecting off a yellow head will cause even the most beautiful loose stone to look canary as hell. They used to call me Jessie James because I sold loose stones and mountings and I had the highest gross margin in a chain of more than forty stores. Don't buy loose stone in a jewelry store thinking you're getting a good I might be on the other side of the counter. I suggest you find a jewelry trade shop they specialize in mounting sizing and repair the work on a much smaller margin and they often get diamonds in mountings from Ex's who just want to make a quick buck. One more thing for you guys trying to save a little cash of the 4 C's color is the only concern if it don't show its no go!!!!!!

also when you go to a jewler who makes what you have in mind or design those ones usually know what the best quality are. you need to ask to look under a light and magnifying glass or microscope they should have, the shape of the diamond upside down. the best.... AND I MEAN THE BEST..... quality and cut for the appearance has a bunch of heart shapes touching at the point from underneath those diamonds have the perfect cut for the quality of light you need to show its integrity. they are BEAUTIFUL and it will blow your mind how a diamond with the same color and sI will look different amongst them all because of the angles it was cut to allow light. i hope this helped good luck and don't get ripped off.
