Question for those who own Ipods...

I am thinking of buying my dad and Ipod for christmas. Neither one of us is all that electronic savvy. So what i would be looking for is something that would download songs, a FM/AM radio band, and do they have subscriptions for sporting events?? I truly no nothing about these things, so any info would be great b4 I go out and talk to people at the store about it. Thanks guys!

They could help you with basic function at the genius bar from you local MAC store,, or you can spend $18 on this, very very helpful... Buy the largest gig IPOD you can afford so you dont have to worry about available space for adding music.

If you want something with an FM/AM radio, an Ipod is not what you are looking for. Ipod's are phenomenal if you have a large collection of music and want to carry it around with you. That is the biggest "pro" of an Ipod.
There are several MP3 players that have the radio on them. You can even get a Sirius MP3 player if your father is really into football, let's say.
What sports does he like the most?

its college football that he would need a good am band for. Or like that serius thing that sounds about right. Ill chack that out!

Ok lets back up a bit here. An Ipod is nothing more than a computer entirely designed to play music. There is no radio, am or fm. All it is, is a hard drive, a screen and some software where you can take the data that is the music on your cd and with a computer transfer it to the hard drive where it stores it for playback.
If you are looking for a high quality radio ect. Check out Eton radios, you might see it marketed as Grundig. They are as close to a quality radio you'll find these days.

yea no fm/am tuner on the ipods. I heard the portable sirius radios are great. I think they make accessories for it like something where you can listen to it through your car speakers. Idk.

The Microsoft Zune is similar to the Ipod, and it does have a built-in radio as well. Try looking into that.
Though, I dont think Zune has a smaller version like the Ipod Nano, just the video mp3 player.

although iPods don't have an am/fm tuner, apple does sell this extra for $30 or so. although this might turn you off, iPods are, imo, superior to other mp3 players in ease of use, features, and their setup.

Thanks for the help guys... The only reason I need the AM band is for when he is out doing yard work, or hunting in the woods etc. I was just hoping for some miracle device that would work in the middle of nowhere. Thanks again for the advice
