question on curly q

A curly Q anemone is sometimes mis labeled. I have seen glass anemones called Curly Q anemones, and they are clearly not. I have also seen Macrodactyla doreensis, Corkscrew or Long Tentacle labeled as Curly Q's, they are NOT. A true Curlicue Anemone, Bartholomea annulata.. Is a crevice dwelling super-stinger of all fish. They are from the tropical west Atlantic. Do a search on all of the above names I listed and see which one best resembles the animal you are looking to buy.

That is indeed a Bartholomea annulata or Curlie Q anemone. They are related to the aiptasia family and are known to be very aggressive. I dont think you will ever get a clown to host if for more than the time it takes for the animal to eat it. JMO

IME unless the fish swims into the center of the nem and gets all tangled up or something then it should be fine! i watched my fish swim through the tentacles countless times and the fish are always strong enough to get away. maybe i just got an especially weak one or somethin but you can literally touch the tentacles underwater and not feel a sting or anything and it barely pulls. unless the fish was like half dead already i have a hard time imagining it being reeled in by this nem.

LOL jk jk ... i am only repeating what I have read. Your info being based on experience is definatly credible. I cant offer any with that specific species I have never owned one.

SWF says the curly-q requires hight lighting. but i thought it was a low light anemone like the tube?

Nope high light requirements.... not like tube anemones at all.

ill stick with the tube anemone for my 55 and my 20 already has a rock anemone which im bored of and want one with longer tentacles. the 20g has 80 watts total.

family has a house in the keys and curly Q's,carpets,antlers,condi,flower anemone,glass anemone are not good host for clownfish as they are to strong. they all need very bright lighting. There house is right on the ocean and these animals are growing very close to the surface. certain fish,shrimp,crabs can live in them and beside them. but tropical fish 99% of the time won't. condi is the less powerful stinging. curly Q's are like the glass anemone they grow like weeds. but in a ten gallon tank i had two 15watt bulbs,marineglo and a triton and i was able to keep a curly Q,flower anemone for months until,my glass anemone took over. so maybe in a small tank with decent lighting?glass anemones are very hardy and can live along time with out really any light. like inside my filters!! antler anemone has to be the coolest one i ever had!!! even had one get sucked up into my filter and chewed up and ever little piece turned into a baby anemone and grew..
