Question on Hypo

Because a full hypo usually takes from 4-5 weeks and it takes from 4-6 weeks for the display to be rid of ich. If you introduce the fish back to the display early there is a chance hat one single ich parasite may still be active enough to re-host. Not worth the risk IMO.

Well i noticed ick on Christmas Day
I took the fish out on 12/26
It was barely developed at all
The ick was completely not visable by 12/28
They have been in Hypo since then...
3 weeks until it was gone was 1/18...
I have been having such a bad nitrite problem that I thought I was better of rasing the salinity now... to cause the fish less stress....
Beth is the disease expert and it says under her hypo thead that 3 weeks in enough...

"Fish are maintained in hyposaline conditions for three weeks after all symptoms are gone. Again, accurate measuring is essential, and the standard swing arm hydrometers are not going to work. A refractometer or large glass lab grade hydrometer calibrated to tank temperatures is needed. Once the fish have been asymptotic for three weeks, the salinity is then raised back to display tank levels over the course of a week. Fish can not tolerate rapid increases in salinity. Leave the fish in quarantine at display tank levels for another week.
Your display will now have been fishless for at least four weeks, sufficient time to allow the parasite’s life cycle to be interrupted. " - From Beth's thread

i waited 5 weeks and had 100% success. 4 weeks is probably enough as I dont think ich can survive without a host for that long. the way I look at it though is why rush things. You have already waited this long, another week isn't a big deal. If you put them back in to early, and the ich survives your looking at another hypersalin. nooooo fun.
4 weeks most likely will suffice, however I chose to wait 5. It's up to you.

I will not say that Beth is wrong, But 4-6 weeks is advisable to be certain ich is gone from your display. If you want to take the chance of repeating the hypo procedure, then by all means put the fish back into the display now. The Plus side is that you now have a cyled QT tank. What is the harm by waiting? A few extra water changes? Beth is indeed the resident "expert" on this board. She has been here for 7 years. I would hate for you to go ahead and return them to the DT and have ich all over again. The choice is, of course, yours.

I can see the argument of both sides. On one hand, you want to make sure the display is definitely ichless. On the other hand, you want the fish out of the QT tank.
The ich in your display might be dead after 3 to 4 weeks of being fishless. Most cases people have been fine with 4 weeks of being fishless. However, there is a chance that the ich is not fully gone. There have been a few documented cases where ich has lived 35-40 days. Keeping your display fishless for 42 days (6 weeks), ensures that all ich is definitely dead.
I personally would leave the display fishless for 6 weeks. I would rather be overly-cautious instead of not enough. The choice is ultimately yours. However, keep in mind, patience usually prevails over haste, especially in this hobby.

hmm... trites on almost any level can be toxic, how to your fish appear? If there is an emergency I would say put them back in your DT, but you do run a small risk of infecting your DT with ich again. maybe bigger water changes in your QT?

Well they look and act okay... I think they will be better in DT... I will add one at a time. DT has been empty for 29days. I have done 50% water changes.

Again, the choice is yours, but it is better to wait than to regret it later! Do you want to go on a "theory" , or "most likely" or do you want to be certain? I am sorry to have to bring this to you like this. Leave the display fishless or 6 weeks, just to be COMPLETELY certain that it is gone. REMEMBER to QT ALL new purchases so this doesn't happen again.
