Question on Large Angels

Has anyone had any success keepnig one in a reef? I have a 240 reef that contains mostly soft corals, mushrooms, polyps, and leathers. I was thinking that I might try a blue or a blue face angel. Any opinions or experiences would be appreciated.

I've had a Maculosus now for 4 months and except for the first couple of days he hasn't touched a coral. Even then it was a nip here and there. Then again he's still small at 5". I seem to get the impression that it is adult angels that tend to eat some corals. I think most people are going to tell you it's just hit or miss with each individual fish. My only suggestion is to purchase a very young angel and watch his habbits.
PS I beleive there is a group of large Angels thats suppose to be a sorta reef safe angel. Maybe I'm wrong.

Many large angels, while they are at their juvinile stage, are reef safe.
But i heared that when they become adults they can eat coral.
Which does not make them reef safe.

I have no idea about the one you listed, but I can tell you from my experience Emporator Angels are not reef safe, we bought ours as a juv and he was wonderful, never bothered anything, as he grew so did his appitite for corals. He liked to eat them all.

I would avoid the large angels and look into the dwarf angels that grow to decent size. i have a "big" 6in cool looking bicolor angel that never attacks any corals. eibls and lemonpeel both get near 6in as well. the genicanthus angel family are reefsafe.

Thanks for the reply's. I currently have about a 2" Flame angel in the tank. I do like the bi-color, but I really like some of the larger angels. I may get one on the smaller side and see how he does. If he ever becomes a problem I could move him to my aggressive setup.

I've 200 fish & soft corals tank. Three big Angels ~4 years old
( Majestic, Queen, and Emperor). They do not fight or nip my corals but....
I feed them spirulina pellets - morning and seafood banquet at night.
I don't think they can gulp down any more. Filtration? Heavy duty(UV, skimmer, Ecco System with plants and few other good thinks...) Fat and happy, and my corals in one piece.
