Question on Nova Extreme

For the Extreme, not Pro, specifically the 36" (2 x 39W)...
Does anyone know if the splash guard is 'good' enough to not have glass below it?
Also, are you able to mount it to something above it like a hood, rather than sitting on the edge of the tank?
Thanks for the answers folks.

I run my Nova extreme without glass tops. I do have to clean the splash guard about once a week, but that is no big deal. I am not sure if you would be able to mount it in a canopy though. Mounting in a canopy might cause some issues with heat build up do to inadequate air movement throught the fixture. Maybe someone else will know more.

Thanks for the info on the splash guard.
As far as heat dissipation goes, are the vents for the fixture on the top?
How do you have your fixture mounted? Sitting on 'feet'?

Have the 24" version, not sure how different from the 36" it is but I don't use glasstops either. The heat vents are on the sides for this model, just slits in the plastic.
I Have it mounted on the legs that come with it and it just sits on the tank. If you could hook into those side vents you could probably hang it from a ceiling/canopy.

The fans are on one side and there are main intakes on the opposite side, but there are also vent holes along the top. Yes I just have mine sitting on the top of the tank on its legs.

i run two 4x39w units on my 40G. the air coming out of the vents gets HOT! i would think if you mounted them in a canopy they would not fair well. if your going to mount them just just the retrofit kit and individual reflectors.
