Question on your live sand

I want to purchase live sand. Does it need to go into the tank right away, and if not how long can I hold off before I use it, don't want any die off? Thank you for your time.

We recommend using it right away. If you are not going to use it immediately, the best thing to do is store it in a large tupperware with saltwatter and a pump for circulation to prevent die off.

I recently ordered some myself for my refugium, so if questions are still in the air after it arrives I'll answer what I can

We carry two types of live sand. Carib Sea offers a wonderful live sand in a tightly sealed bag with a small quantity of water. The Florida keys live sand is packed in a styrofoam box with a plastic bag liner with some water in it.

Carib Sea = blah.
I say go for the Keys live sand, if they take it right out of the ocean, or their controlled tanks, and package it.

I have used both. The pre-packaged Carib Sea is great, but it only carries the biofilter in the sand, not "critters".
The Keys live sand is awesome. Its been several years but I loved this sand for its particle size variety. I used it to set up my 72 gal reef which was totally filtered by 5" deep sand bed and live rock (also from SWF). This sand was completely cycled. I had zero ammonia, nitrite and natrates from day 1 and never had any thing above zero for the duration of having that tank. Now, I was living in the Keys at the time, so there was not any delivery time delay. I got the sand and rock together. Smelled great (like the ocean) when I opened up my payload of stuff. I also used some more down the line just to replenish the DSB.

I got my LS today from SWF and so far so good. It came doubled wrapped in bags inside a styrofoam box and was in water. It has a good variety of particle sizes, some small LR rubble, and I could see a few small critters moving around. I'll let you know how it goes as it progresses. It's in my refugium and I can only see it from above so its hard to tell how much life is there right now and I'm sure most of the critters are still hiding a bit

Still looks good, from what I can see inside the fuge theres some good life growing. My DT tank also has 0 nitrates right now, not sure how much the sand has to do with that but I'm sure its doing its part.
