Hi all. I have a 2217 eheim filter, 130 lbs of live rock, remoraCpro skimmer...I don't have room for a sump under this stand so I want to know. would I be better off with hang on emporer filter, no filter? or my eheim, so far no issues at all with eheim, just don't see alot of people loving them. Every 2 weeks all we have done is take out the top pad and have rinsed it. I was told then I would have to change out some media at the 6 month mark. things are working fine now, but just thinking of long term results.....

why dont you hook up a loop system for extra circulation and put some poly filters in your ehiem... polyfilter pad work great

Hey Blemmy...how often do you change that polyfilter stuff on top? Today for the firs time with our water change, we also took out the "rocks" under the pad, then got to the blue pad and rinsed it clean. It was kind of mucky....not pretty!! Put that blue pad back in, the rocks and then the new polyfilter stuff....so hoping this will be good. For some reason we had tiny touch of ammonia today in our lfs water test...have not had ammonia since we cycled long time ago, made me nervous. LFS guy says..oh fine, normal.....healthy tank....nitrite and nitrate were 0....ammonia .25..any idea why? remoraC still doing excellent job but do notice maybe stuff a bit too thick and not pulling as much as fast, so put cup in deeper to pull a bit more thinner...any other suggestions? We have added a couple of corals this past week but that is it....I think i might have been feeding too much so cut down that a few days ago...don't feed tons but what I was feeding does blow around the tank, so trying to do less of that. All looks fine and healthy now, just not sure why I have an ammonia reading..we checked and all are happy and doing well and alive....was going to put another fish in next week, going to hold off again..have not put one in for a while now.

if your talking about the thin blue pad , thats on top the bio-balls i clean it about bi-weekly and replace it monthly, its cheap stuff, i buy it buy the foot in a big role, like 30 foot for around 20 bucks or so. i clean the round filter floss at the overflow weeklyand replace it about every 4 to 6 months, and the big square sponge just before the return pump, i clean it monthly.
i would recheck your ammonia in a couple days, and see where your at then, no telling what it is, also could simply be the test kit??
get us some pics of your corals when you can. goodluck

HI again....I have a cannister 2217 filter, no bioballs, think we are on different pages....I dont have an overflow....as a matter of fact, someone said somethinga bout a closed loop system and I was not sure what that was but he had not returned a response. I wanted to see about changing my existing system at some point...the floss I put in was in the cannister....
