Question regarding southdown and quickcrete sands

Is southdown and quickcrete sand silica based or calcium based?

I know the Quikrete I use is silica based. I have heard a lot of people say Quikrete sand is not very white but the stuff I use is almost bleach white and seems to work great.

I just found a assistant manager at Home Depot that will get me any Southdown I want transferred from a store that sells it and I will pay exactly what the store he is getting it from sells it at!!!!!
Today is a good day!!!
Edit: I found out the answer to my question as well. Southdown is Aragonite based sand.

Correct, that's the big advantage to Southdown over other types of dead sand.

What are you using this for i am looking for a good sand to use for a reef tank will either of these work or should i go to lps and by the stuff in the bag.......

You can use either one for your tank.
