Do xenia melt away to form new polyps, the reason is that I have a piece and one of the stalks looks likes it is melting away.

Can't really tell from the pic. but it could be attaching itself to the rock. This is how they spread. :D

Hi, I've had all the xenia kinds, and yes they can do that, and then you just find them in another location in the tank, but most likely they are upset and croking. How much iodine do you add, and what do you feed them. They love "golden pearls" I've noticed that they quite easily get stung, and are fairly touchy except for anthelia which is quite hardy. Also sometimes just changing the flow helps, but in some tanks for some reason, it is just imposible for those tanks to house any xenia. So good luck, and I hope it isn't melting away on ya. Good luck, ali:happyfish

My Xenia (see my Avatar) was doing great for a long time. Then some of it started to melt. I didn't change a thing and then it stopped and looks great again. I asked at the LFS and he said that it does that sometimes to spread out. They had a giant colony melt down to nothing and then reappeared as many, many frags all over the tank. Then he sold each piece for a huge profit!
