i have a 55gal reef with xp2 cansister filter,prizm skimmer,should i be looking into sump/fuge?it seems thats what most of you

yep. I had canisters and bio wheels and HOT skimmers on my first tank too. Man, was I a newbe...
Surface overflow and sump with fuge is the best and a better skimmer too.

I had a 55 gallon once, couple of HOB filters and such. Even used a canister on it for a while.
Now I have a 90 gallon with a 55 gallon refugium, sump is seperate. For now I wouldn't go back to plane after seeing the stability, and filtration effects of having a refugium. Skimmer in sump. My system does quite well.
In short, yes I'd recommend it.
