I'd say Salifert and Lamotte on the higher end, Seachem and Red Sea kits are pretty good too. I use mostly the Salifert kits for my testing.

Agreed, Saliferts are quite good for the money. Elos and Lamotte's are nice by pricey. Definitely don't get test strips, they're useless. Also, make sure the test give you a result in actual numbers. A few kits just give you a Good-OK-Bad reading, which is useless. The Red Sea Alkalinity test kit is one that comes to mind that doesn't give an answer in numbers.

Yes, definitely get tests that give actual readings, I didn't think to mention that, thanks Yosemite. You may need to mix and match between brands to find the kits you like for specific tests.

I see this question. And the answers are all usually the same. Why don't people use the Hagen test kits? I do. Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are easy and seem to be accurate. Calcium is to 20 ppm and Alk is part of the Hardness test kit (just the KH). Also on the plus side all test kits can be refilled by purchasing just the reagant you need not the whole kit.
