i have some red goowy stuff swaying on the surface of my sand. does anyone kno what this is?
i also have a big algea problem. how do i get rid of that annoying algea?

Do a search on Cyano bacteria or A.K.A Red slime algae and you should find some useful info. A picture would help but it sounds like what you are describing.

There is no quick fix. You have to figure out what is fueling your algae growth. How old is your tank? How long do you leave your lights on? Age of your bulbs? Is your tank getting direct or indirect sunlight? Are you over feeding? Are you using RO/DI water for water changes? How often are you doing water changes? What kind of cuc do you have? Answer these questions and let's go from there.

We had a huge brown algae problem. I was about to lose my mind over it. We cut down on the lights a couple hours, switched to RO/DI water, and started using phoslock to eat up all the phosphates and starve it to death. It was significantly better in less than a week.
