Questions about Blue chromis school?

For my last fishes I want to add some blue. I want to get blue chromis, a school of four or five. (I wanted a hippo tang, but everyone in the world says 55g is too small, even though it wouldn't outgrow the tank for a while)
Does anyone have a school of these, how many is a good number? Will they school with green or blue green chromis or must they all be the same?
I have two clowns, a butterfly, firefish, yellow watchman, cleaner, peppermint, two crabs, snails, LR etc.
Will a school be compatible in this scenerio? How many needed for schooling behavior?
Anyone who has this species or info. I'd like to hear from. Thanks.

I have these guys in my 135gal tank, as many as 10 and as little as 2. They seam to do better in odd numbers. When I have even numbers the group in pairs or in two groups. But I have had good luck with the lucky number 7. Interesred in what you find in smaller tank. I would start with 3 you allways can add. My guys had allways welcomed more to there group with open fins.

what happened to the other three? Died obviously, but from what? Same species homocide or picked off by more aggressive fish?
Should I only get a few then? maybe two blue and two green?
What size tank did you have them in?

I've got 6 in my 125. After some nipping when they were added, they have settled down. I've found that they do best in groups to spread out the aggression and they like to be fed more than once a day. They school together some during the day, but school together well when the lights are dim in the morning and at night.

A 55 gallon tank is too small for a "school" of Chromis. They need to be fed very often and you will end up one of two ways: starving your fish or seriously dirtying your water. Your tank already has enough fish IMO.

Would three be too many? I have good filteration and water movement. I don't want more than five maybe three green and three blue.
Does anyone else have an opinion on the bioload for 55g? I don't want my fish stressed or dying?

Just my newbie $0.02 - your tank already has enough fish, I would worry about stressing out the established residents of your tank by adding more chromis. But that is just my opinion - take it FWIW. Post some pics!

I have 5 blue and they schooled up great, even adopted a yellow tail damsel to their class. Fun active fish to watch

The reason I think I can add a school of 3-5 chromis is because of where they are in the tank. My yellow watchman hides mostly peeking out from his spot, the firefish has an area about 4x4in that he stays in unless feeding and the other three wander but stay near the front waiting to eat.
I think, from what I've seen, that the chromis would stay in the upper 1/3 and have plenty of hiding/sleeping spots in the rocks during night.
I may start with three blue and then try to add two green or blue/green depending on how the first ones do. LFS doesn't have them for another week or so, but I would like to add a bit more color and keep things peaceful.
Thanks to those who advised. :joy:
