1) what distance should i keep between the fixture and the tank? its a 72" light with three 250 watt halides over a 125 gallon tank with a center cross brace. (one halide will be over the brace)
2) i will probably use 2 or 3 wall hangers to suspend the light. any suggestions on what kind of hangers to use that will support the weight of the light?

rJust go to a haedware store and get some good anchers that will be holding the weight straight down. I have use a set that were rated at almost 50 lbs. I would use 4 just to make sure. possibly one at each corner of the light.
For metal halide I have read and heard minimun or atleast 6 inches from the tank. My fixtures is about 6 inches from the water and about 5 inches from the top of the tank. The water is below the top if not it would be overflowing....
I too have a center brace under the metal halide. I was told to use some aluminum reflector sheet. And form a triagle going up. You dont want to cut the brace off and you dont want it to brake off from the heat. I have not use the aluminum sheet yet and have a small triangle piece of aluminum foil. I check the brace and it does not get tooo hot. Before it would almost burn your hand.
