Just check to make sure it is not against the law.
The correct answer is that yes you can, just make sure you go out far enough to get away from polution.
While out there you could also collect all the macro algae you can to balance out and stabilize the tank. I would recommend that you let the system run for at least three weeks to allow fish borne parasites (ICH) to die out.
You could even collect fish after that time. You may have a little trouble getting them acclimated to tank food, but the results can be rewarding.
