Questions about star fish?

Poke it and see if it moves. I'm wondering if it's suffering osmotic shock.

Well, he had a little sand built up around him (I thought was from the sand just being moved by filtration). He didn't move when poked, but I moved him over about 2 inchs... still nothing, then in a few mins he just started walking across the tank! He went over to some dead coral (ran into it pretty much) and then stopped again. Now he's getting some sand built up around him.
The store was closed due to snow, but hopefully she'll let me trade him in tomorrow.... that's if I can find him by then
