Can you guys tell me more about vho's? Do they need to be replaced once a year like PC's? Are there in brands i should be aware of? What are some brands that you would recommend?
Any help would be much appreciated!!

I run a VHO setup on my 90g. I use a IceCap 660 ballest with single water resistant IceCap end-caps. At the moment I'm running 2 Super Atinics and 2 10K from URI. I really like my setup at the moment and yes you have to replace the bulbs at least once a year for proper color (spectrum). I've never really tried any other ballests so I can't say who's is better or anything but I can say that I've tried a Solar Dimmer from Blue Line and would recommend steering clear of them. It sounded like a really great timer but I never could get mine set up correctly. Mine caused the ballet to fail twice but I never had a problem with getting help from IceCap.

Pretty sure on another post, BangGuy stated using URI bulbs on a Icecap 660 ballast for VHO's, they can last up to 24 months before they will require a change. If anyone has other info, please correct me.

i would never use my bulbs for over a year. i had a pair of VHO's that i had to run for about 11 or 12 months + because i didnt have the money to spend on new bulbs (they are expensive at my lfs), and i forgot how long id had them. when i finally changed them, they were all blackened, and the new ones were 3x brighter easily. they just stop working as well after a while. I use VHO on my 75 gal. It is an ARO 440 watt 4 bulb set up. I use URI bulbs, 2 blue ones and two whites ones. I usually change them about every 10-12 months, probably should change them every 6-8 though. I am very happy with them, and they are easy to maintain. I only bought the ARO because it was reasonably priced and the LFS I went to was out of Icecaps the day I went. Being the impatient person I am I left with the ARO. I am very happy with it's performance and would recommended the brand.

I run 4 110w URI superactinic bulbs with an Icecap 660 ballast. I replace the bulbs about every 8 - 9 months or so. I havent really noticed a difference with the

eye when I change the bulbs but I know it time to do it. Also I only change one bulb at a time, one per week until they are all replaced. Just how I do it...good luck with yours.
