Questions For the Tang Police

I've been reading about how tangs need all of this room, but I have a 55 gallon, with 25 lbs. of live rock. In the tank, I have 15 fish including a 5 inch Naso Tang, 3 small Yellow Tangs, a Blue Hippo Tang, a small Percula Clown, a large Clarkii Clown, 5 Green Chromis, 2 Yellow Tail Damsels, and a large Blue Fin Damsel. They are living happily and seem to have plenty of room, but according to people on this forum, it's cruel to them. I don't buy it. What are peoples opinions of this?

I'm not going to venture into the cruelty part, that's pretty subjective.
What is not subjective is that most of your fish will not survive much longer in your aquarium. It's your aquarium so if that's what you want then it's really nobody elses business IMO.
If you want your fish to live even a significant portion of their expected lifespan then you need to sell or give away most of your fish.
I would recommend removing all of the Tangs and the 3 Damsels. That will leave a fish population that has a good chance of doing well in your system.

With Tangs it's all about personal space. Although most Tangs school, they do not get very close to each other.
To give you an idea of what I'm talking about walk up to one of your co-workers and get your face 8" from theirs. That discomfort you feel is exactly what your Tangs are facing. Now imagine that feeling being extended for years.

Some people are very misinformed about saltwater tanks. It's kind of s***** of you to automatically assume its a joke. Way to make someone feel crappy.

But come on now, I can already imagine his tank with all those fish in it and even only with the damsels it already looks wayyyyy too crowded.
Tangguy2, can you post a pic of what your tank looks like?

Jlem - you really seem to be collecting some negitive votes latley :) I think many of us know how blunt you can be right out of the gate...I'm guilty as well
Suggestion: This is a first time poster and perhaps it is not fair of us to assume to much to start with. Lets not go for the kill right away but welcome them with a smile instead :D
TangGuy2 - Welcome to the board

Guess by now you have your answer that your choice of fish is not a wise one, I would have to agree.
You are the master of your tank though and its your choice, we all learn as we go. Don't just look here do some research on the fish you have in the tank and their minimum requirments, you'll find out that your tank is perhaps way to small for those tangs. If you do not find this out through reseach perhaps in time you will through experinece. Love those tangs myself but do not have any in my 90 gallon as I think its not enough room.

I submit that I was a jerk with my reply. I apologize. I am curious how long your tank has been up though. I think that awnsering that would clear alot of things up. If the tank is very new then the bioload should wipe the tank out soon.
Once again I apologize and hope that we can help.
I am sticking to my guns on the whole selling forum issue.

Voting that you can push some buttons :)
I figure its got something to do with your MOS
I'm still looking for some Navy Seals to sneak in and dump that extra 3 inches of sand in your tank

Thomas
P.S. I still don't see any prob with the trading thing either, perhaps I'd better go check it again.

Hey Thomas-whats MOS?
I wouldn't be surprised if he really had his tank set up this way, a guy was on here the other day talking about a lionfish in a 20 gallon so I believe anything these days :( just hope he knows its a BAD idea and to take back fish while he still can, maybe get some store credit.:happyfish

I'm a Parachute rigger. The seals did try to jump in but I was the one that packed their chutes, poor guys

It sounded like a joke to me I figured someone had just created an account to make some laughs but he might be serious. :)
KittyKitty: I was being serious. If he knew who the tang police is then he has been browsing the boards for a little while.
