I just bought an RO/DI unit that will be here in about a week or so. I have been using Wallymart water for top-offs and made the cardinal sin and used Tap to start my new tank when I moved a month ago (Time and $ issues caused that) Now I have a bad algae problem. So...
1) Should I do a massive water change??
2) Or just continue to top off with my RO/DI water???
3) What's the best technique for mixing your own water? I have a 100GPD unit and a 75g + 20g Refugium. Should I buy a new 55g garbage can? To make water for a water change?? How do you get the water in your tank?
Thanks.

I use a rubber maid brute garbage can to hold my RO/DI water until I need it just be sure to use a power head to keep the water circulating and be sure that you use the Brute can as it is proven not to leach anything into your water other types will.
Also an auto shut off is a good investment to keep from flooding the floor when you forget to shut off the RO/DI unit and you will forget trust me on this one as I am a member of the flooded floor club with more than 1 flood to my membership

Oh forgot to say to do a large water change with the RO/DI water. Another good investment to keep hair algae away is a Phosphate reactor as phosphates are what is causing your algae problem and they are cheap less than $50 and worth their weight in gold.
