Quick acclimation question!

Help me quick! I just came home from the store with 4 new corals. Can I place them all in the same tub and drip acclimate them all together? They came out of the same tank at the LFS....

Yes, just try not to let them touch (sting) each other. While others may disagree, I usually iodine dip them and have recently been QTing them just like Qting new fish.

depending on the type of corals, probably yes. A plate coral for example, has tentacles that can sting nearby corals. Stonys, usually no, polyps and things ok.

Thanks for the quick response Al~ Your the best!
Unfortunately, I am taking a risk here and not Qting the new corals..... I know its ridiculously stupid and I probably will kick myself for it, but I am just praying that it works out okay. I am currently setting up a QT for future corals, but I dont have a good enough light yet....

Oh! ANd should I float the bags first before drip acclimation?
yes....10-15 minutes should be enough unless they got really cool coming home (in suuny California that should not be a problem)

No..Acclimation of corals is not needed at all. Take them out of the water. let them in the air for about 10-15sec to slim up and in they go. Out of all the things added to the tank corals def dont need any acclimation

Really? Not even floating? I think I will acclimate them (temp float and drip) just to be safe....

nope..the slime they make will take care of anything.
I have done this with every coral I have had. and I have had MANY Acros, Montis, Aussie Acans, LPS LOTS of stuff..Personally all this hours and drip acclimation do more damage then good.
You know what is funny..I have read SOOO many threads of why did my xxxx die..I acclimated it drip for x amount of hours.
yet I have NEVER heard anyone say they lost anything after tossing something in after a 10min float

Is letting the bags float and adding in a little bit of DT water every few minutes acceptable? I dont have enough airline tubing to drip acclimate everything....

as stated above, u dont need to acclimate them. unless of course the temp has a difference of like 10-15 degrees. i do what xrunner said, just take them out and air then for 10 sec.

Just so you know, the above posts are accurate. Trans-shippers and wholesalers have now begun sending printed instructions to lfs that say - float to equalize temp, cut open bags, dump water, insert coral into display / sale tank. More important to "light acclimate" new arrivals. My friend owns a lfs and has showed me the new acclimatization proceedures he is recieving. He has also been getting snails and hermits with only wet paper in the bags and has had a much lessened loss rate!

Hey Dennis~
Everything looks fantastic. I must admit that I didnt exactly follow the quick acclimation procedure since I was unsure. I floated the bags for 15-20 minutes, then used the turkey baseter to add water to the bags for at least another 30 mintues. I was just a bit leery of the quick acclimation technique, since this is the first time I have ever heard of it. I think I will definatley give it a try next time though! It sounds like its a good way to do it....
Sorry I dont have any pics. My camera went in for repairs last week (it kept telling me "lense error" when I would try to turn it on). Maybe I can borrow my moms this weekend!

for more information click on the accilmatization link here on this site then go to the archives it lists. Also the two doc's web site has inormation as does TFP.com
Some of the sites that are selling corals also now have the same info. If you read up on coral morphology you will find that with as simple a living structure as this is - it probably is less stressful to get them into your system as quicly as possible and then let them be.
