My little giant pump says I can lubricate the sleeve bearings with 2-3 drops of SAE 20 NON DETERGENT oil. I only have SAE 30....not sure if its detergent or non detergent? I use it for my generator. Thanks
Well regular oil is non detergent unless it specifically says it has additivies. So just being a higher SAE I would use it. It wont hurt. The oil will be alittle thicker (which you wont notice) but that wont hurt. I say use it, you'll be fine.
Honestly, if a pump says to only use a specific kind of oil on it's bearings, I would use that specific type of oil on it's bearings. Using anything other may void the manufacturers warranty. Also, if that oil is a little thicker, the pump will not be able to rotate as quickly, you will be using more electricity for less gallons per hour.
just my $.02

They all have additives! Every single one of them. Castrol, penzoil, quackerstate, all motor oil has additives.
There is such a thing as non detergent oil, we use it to break in race car motors after being rebuilt. There is a difference, I would get some nondetergent if that is what it says to use.

we used to order it when I worked at Oreilly auto for some guy and his drag boat. But I was just saying most off the shelf oil is detergent oil.
If you want to find 20 weight oil. Look in a specialised mower shop, or a small motor shop, maybe a mom and pop maytag place. Where they repair washers.
