Quick Live Sand Question

Yes after a while even play sand mixed with live sand will become live sand. The same goes for base rock becoming live rock. The critters and bacteria will eventually spread every where, which is a good thing..

I used base rock and LR combined in my tank to reduse the cost. You can do the same thing with LS also. If this is going to be a new system than you need to remember the more LS and LR you have the shorter amount of time your tank will take to cycle. The reason I say this is LS and LR already contain millions of beneficial bacteria in it. Your tank "cycles" by creating or increasing the bacteria load and growth it has in which to break down ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. You can do a search on the nitrogen cycle to gain more insight.
