I noticed my tank has alot of green algae on the glass lately and my starts seem to be getting sick im assuming this is caused from my tap water a i use tap water with conditioner but the conditioner does not remove the posphates. Just want an opinion if i should use bottled water (5 litre jugs) from grocery store for quick fix of phosphate problems till i get reverse osmosis. And if so, should i get the spring water (green top) or the de-ionized water (purple top) and should i still use the conditioner even with the spring water or de-ionized or should i be okay for chlorine content as they shouldnt have any?
Thanks!
Tang;)

Most people say that RO/DI water is the best.....what is your phosphate reading? It could also be because your protein skimmer isn't working up to its full potential......what type of filter do you have?

My understanding of spring water is that it contains a lot of minerals. If you can't get RO/DI water, the best bet is to use distilled.

Minerals contained in Spring Water can lead to algea blooms.
Atleast that is the way it has been described to me.

I would use the Wal-mart distilled water (purple top) its distilled and filtered by RO. Just read the lable and it will tell you if its filtered by RO and distilled, as stated already stay away from the spring water it had added minerals. I had the same problem you are having, I bought a phospate sponge and starting using the RO/DI water and I am almost algea free. HTH
