Quick skimmer brand question?

the spray injection certaintly isn't the "differentiator" as there's a good list of needle wheels that perform just as well for the same amount of money and far greater efficiency (and thats being kind. several will smoke a EV 120-240 for less money once you add the cost of the drive pump). the "differentiator" for the EV series is it fits where they wont. dont get me wrong the EV skimmers peform well, about inline for what you'd expect in their price range but theirs nothing special or superior about the performance of their spray injection (the skimmer design overall works well. remoras/uchins use spray nozzle technology and suck). that patent is 8yrs old when downdrafts and true pump driven venturi skimmers that required huge pressure pumps were the norm. things have come along way since then.
We can certainly agree to disagree (we love that about this hobby, eh?
). When I said differentiator, I meant that the process of spray injection differentiates the AquaCs from other skimmers by way of the mechanical process employed. There are certainly other processes (e.g., needle wheel, venture…you know the drill) that are effective. Ultimately, it often comes down to personal preference, does it not?
Nonetheless, in a comprehensive test performed last spring, the AquaC EV 180 outperformed the other skimmers in its class in terms of both quantity and quality of skimmate. Does that mean that the AquaC is "the best" skimmer? Of course not. It simply means that in that test on that specific system it outperformed the other skimmers in its class. Since then I have moved all my systems over to AquaC, and I've been very happy. That is obviously anecdotal and should be taken with a grain of salt. Again, I'm not suggesting that what I'm saying is Gospel--I'm just sharing my own experience.
By the way, I just cranked up two remoras on two new small systems, and I have been pleased to date. What are your concerns about the Remoras? Any data or anecdotal information would be much appreciated, as I will be writing about these systems, and I'd like my assessment to be as comprehensive as possible.
Have a good one!

can they/you be specific on "its class" of skimmers and brand/skimmer models in particular. since they are making bold claims name names. otherwise its pretty meaningly. for some class means price point. for others like me for example a $350 beckett and a $350 needlewheel aren't the same "class" of skimmer. anyway I believe the EV180 is right up there with some of the best $340 skimmers but to claim to be THEE best I must know the competition (which even now, testing a year ago would leave out a lot of new or updated products that have come to market).

mostly competition. the competition is no longer bakpaks, red sea berlins and seaclones but sedra powered warner marines, entry level deltecs, needlwheel and SICCE powered octopussies. and God forbid the urchin because the value priced sump skimmer competition is off the charts (like the EV for me compactness seems to be its greatest advantage). Its not so much a "problem" with them as it is what would make one choose one over the recent competition. even the turboflotor who's been around for ever brought out a new model and lower price given the competition. ETSS has brought out the sump buddy's in lieu of competition. Euroreef has constantly done updating and price configuring. these are all old mainstay companies like AquaC. basically the question is (and you can pass this on to AquaC) do they not think in lieu of current competition it is not neccessary to improve/change/price restructure basically 10yr old products (even the EV updates in 02' were minor)? I get the spray injection is their thing and it works (every good skimmer company has their "thing" they choose to use) but every year there's a new needle wheel pump with a new needlewheel/pinwheel/threadwheel/meshweel design, a new body design that works better, a new model more efficient and effective than last years ect. constant improvements and an influx of competition where even cheap skimmers are pretty good. I feel AquaC is just sitting back on old merrits (on skimmers, I see they've been working on reactors and other products but still the same old skimmers).

Hola,
Thanks for the good thoughts here. I hate to hijack this thread, so I'll start a new one and come back here and postthe link to the new thread. How's that?
