hey guys. today is my first day off of cigs. ive been smoking for 9 years(15 years old). pretty sad that i use to steal them from my parents until i was of age to buy them. then i started smoking even more. I decided to quit for my wife and family that i will have down the road.
any advice that will help me with the withdrawls?

i quit cigars ,i was inhaling them after a few years i could feel it in my lungs.i only quit a few weeks ago but coughing up a bunch of nasty stuff that was in my lungs.mostly brown.the withdraws only last a few days.problem is that its a habit .it is a routine all day long.tough to break when you go to the same gas station and the guy behind the counter always puts them on the counter before you ask for them.
i have just been trying to not think about them and keep the nasty looking ashtray full of what my lungs probably look like and think thats gross.it helps me anyway.good luck its tough.but your family needs you around .(unless you have a million dollar life insurance policy )

I quit 20 years ago...gum is very helpful. Don't sit around, keep yourself busy if your hands are doing something they won't be feeding your face. No matter what, do not think you can just take a few drags and feel better..It will only feed the addiction. Take a shower, sing a song do jumping jacks but don't light up, not even once. Don't hang out where another person smokes to smell the air or around smokers.
Hope you succeed! Keep telling yourself in 3 days it physically out of your body after 7 days you broke the habit, never look back.

doesnt chantex have more side affects than jumping off a bridge?i have seen the commercial and it seemed its worse than smoking.actually like flower said withdraws are only days.its more of a life habit that needs to be broke.i smoked cigs for 10 years when i was younger .i quit cold turkey no problem.i dont know why my dumb brain said hey look at those sweet looking grape cigars.think i will smoke those now.stupid habit.really disgusting

GL with it. Check the local state support arganizations. Here in NY, the stopsmokingny program offers discounted patches and gum as well as a 24/7 support hotline.
Funny how i know all this and still wont quit.

It will be 6 years for me in April......I smoked since I was about 7 years old, and I am 47 now....so basically up till 6 years ago, I really can not remember a time I did NOT smoke....except for my occasional practice quitting
At the time my husband and I quit together, and we took Wellbutrin to ease the edge....I only took it the first month....
I will not tell you it was easy, cause it wasn't...BUT...you have to have your mind set that you are better than that darn little smelly thing that nowadays cost a small fortune to aid in your death
I occasionally think about it, BUT when someone who smokes comes into my office, and I smell how badly they STINK....I smile to myself.....I am hoping that quitting added years to my life that I will be able to spend watching my grandchildren grow

well, assuming tobacco is as bad for you as they say. If the choice was between having the side effects vs the health issues resulting from smoking, well....
I took it the only side effect I had was nausea.

I just posted on a friend's fb today that a friend and his wife stopped smoking in 3 months with electric cigs. He said that after calculating what they were spending on real cigs, the electrics were actually cheaper.
The "loads" are available in varying levels of nicotine so you can slowly remove it from your system with less withdrawl. If you find that you need something in your hand, just use the cig with an empty cartridge. After a few months, they didn't even feel the need to hold something or do the "hand to mouth" instinctive routine.
Good luck!!

stdreb thats great.i think most of the listings of side affects are so spread out you are probably right.if one person has a stroke from it out of a million they have to list it.the local gas station i go to almost everyday put up a display for the electric cigs.i was working a homeshow for my business last spring.i saw a guy smoking one of those electrics inside the building.so i went up to him and asked him if they worked.he said he quit cigs for two months with it.so at the time i smoked alot and he gave me a set up to try.pretty neat .although i got a big taste of the nicotine slime you put in it .it actually gave me a head rush.but it helped him.i think the price at the gas station is around $40 .not bad since real cigs cost i think $30 a carton.might be more .i know i get cigars for a buck.

lol, well, I was a 2 can a day dipper. I tried chantex, (about 4 years ago now) it worked on the craving, but I tried I didn't really do. So it didn't last. I quit dipping cold turkey, after I finally talked myself into quitting. I still to this day have triggers. I still wake up, and reach for my can of snuff, that isn't there. And after a big meal I catch myself doing this thing I'd do with my lip when I had a dip in. I don't go into gas stations ever anymore. Dip asks every day 3-4 times. It is just easier to say no now... And I used to have to say no 3-4 times in an hour...
