Ok, im about 10 seconds away from quitting SWF.com message boards if someone doesn't friggin answer me, If you don't know say I DONT KNOW or something, just COME ON, i have a crisis here.

dude y r u trippin this is all a trail and error hobby! lol,....but yea thats how u do it,...if i were u i would use the bio-wheel too cus u can get some benefical bacteria

Jesus christ im glad somebody cares enough to answer a question, BTW, my filter is now broken I guess cause of the carbon and now my tank has no circulation and a bunch of friggin carbon floating in it.
I posted in new hobbiest cause its a simple question

when u go to ur lfs make ur to buy a extra filter with a powerhead i would suggest a the Hagen AquaClear 301 or Marieland Maxi-Jet 900.

Wow, sorry about freaking out earlier, I was in mid panic attack and trying to deal with my fish at the same time and kinda went overboard, so sorry for freaking out, now my sand is all covered with black clumps of carbon... any ideas of getting rid of it?

Net, I did this too...tried putting in carbon in a "media" spot on my skimmer, next thing i know carbons flowing out of it faster than the water.
What the heck are you trying to do anyway with carbon?

ive done this once and the way i got the carbon out ....i used a fish net. if you have sand, the sand will go though the net and the carbon (usually, since its bigger than sand) will stay in the net. just stop most of your circulation, scoop it up shake the sand out of the net (gently) and you should have yourself a net full of carbon. you should be able to wash it out of your filter too it thats what is in it preventing it from working. good luck
