R.I.P. Bob Sheppard
That name may not mean a lot to all of you....BUT he was the NY Yankees announcer since 1951...until about 3 years ago....he was 99 years old.....and will be remembered by me, as I am sure by LOTS of sports fans all over for his distinguished voice
He was one of a kind...

I'm embarrassed I knew who he was (Speaking as a Dodger fan when I still cared about Baseball)

He and Vin Scully both had great runs. Scully is still at it after after 60 years. I can't imagine doing it for that long.

wow, I totally missed that. I guess once his love died (yankee stadium) he had to go soon after.
Speaking of old announcers you should check out Milo Hamilton. He is a throw back.

Reggie Jackson dubbed him "The voice of God". Jeter had him record his "now batting" announcement just for him. Every time he comes to bat at Yankee Stadium Sheppard will still announce him.
