r sponges good or bad???

i have noticed a small area on 1 of my live rocks were it seems 2 have a very light green looking substance on it, sponge is what it appears to be

99% of the time they are good, they are filter feeders so they can help keep nitrates low by filtering out the particles that can break down in your tank causing nitrates. there are a few rarer varieties that can sting the heck out of you like the fire sponge, or the borer type sponges that kill clams but these are extremly rare.
