Ragged fin

I just noticed yesterday that my Lemon Peel Angel has raggedy edges on his bottom fin and on his tail. The rest of him looks very healthy and his behavior is fine. I'm sure it's not aggression in the tank because they've all lived harmoniously for quite a while and I see no changes. Everyone else is fine, Cowfish,Clown & Royal Gramma. What do you think?

Welcome to the site.
I love my lemon peel! Aggression is the usual cause of fin nipping...do you have a large brittle star? Mine went fish hunting when it got really big.
Fish can get along fine for a long time, then maturity kicks in and they fight. Keep an eye out, moonlights will prevent fin nipping at night.

All I have are the 4 fish mentioned, lots of hermits, a feather duster & a rock filled with mushroom coral. Sand and lots of live rock too. It's only a 40 gallon tank. I have the double lights that simulate sunrise & sunset but at night the tank is completely dark. Is the moon light something different and does it need another fixture? Thanks for answering.

Have you checked your water parameters recently? Sometimes ragged fins can indicated a decline in water quality.

as well as poor nutrition.... LOL.
oh yes my dear friend BUT poor nutrition is not the cause it is a contributing factor. Poor nutrition leads to a suppressed immunize system which leads to opportunistic bacteria infections. But I would love to debate the subject as long as you are wearing the boots (saxman is not around is he?)

Thank you for all the suggestions. I guess first I'll check all the water levels, it has been a while. All I feed them is frozen brine, reef plankton & extreme garlic. They've been eating the same for years. And how did I get the tag "Yellow Tang" under my name? I never put that there & I never owned one.
