Raising ghost shrimp in an auto topoff reservoir?

Just wondering if people would have thoughts about raising ghost shrimp in an auto topoff reservoir. It would be nice to have a constant supply of live food for my fish. Anyone ever kept these? Know how to raise them? Would it affect the quality of the topoff water?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The reservoir is freshwater. In the fuge I'd have to go with a saltwater shrimp like white shrimp. But I think it would be a pain to disturb the sand and rock all the time to catch the food in there.

ahhhh gotcha, so ghost shrimp are freshwater yet ok to feed to sw fish? i thought feeding fw food to sw fish was a no no?

They shouldn't be a staple of their diet. But ghost shrimp are actually better for fish than goldfish. And I only feed them to my fish once every week or two as a treat and to vary their diet. I am a firm believer that the more variety in a fish's diet the better.

so would it be feasible, saying i wanted to take the trouble to catch the lil buggers, to raise white shrimp in my fuge? or make a second tank just for the raisin of the lil buggers? or are ghost shrimp better? and do u just buy seafood from like publix or whatnot to mix up for ur fish?

Keep moving their diet around. Different foods will help with their immune systems and allow them to be healthier.

I dont know what a auto top off resevoir looks like, but I have my shrimp in a 5 gallon tank. If you were breeding them it my get tricky and messy because you need to feed the fry brine shrimp. But if you had a brine filter it may work.

Having cleaned many tanks of ghost shrimp, I don't think I would want that water in an auto-top off system. Whatever you do, it will be lower quality water.

In a separate bucket or tank, even a small couple of gallon eclipse (depending on your needs). But if you want to keep them awhile, you will need to feed them. And even if you only keep them a week and don't feed, you will get dead one's and they will poo etc in the meantime...definitely not what I would want in top off water :)
Ours were at an LFS, so it was a 40g breeder with some hang on filters.

I kind of figured as much. But they say that saltwater shrimp and inverts do not give off as much waste.

"As much" is relative and I am not sure I believe that anyway. YOu would constantly have to check for dead shrimp at a minimum. I don't know what sort of auto top off you have, but you would need circulation and oxygenation, just like any other system as well.

we put some in our 90gal FW tank and now we got tons of them. i just grab a handfull off a plant and toss them in for my puffers every once in a while....no1 notices haha

I would raise white shrimp in a rubbermaid, that's just me though..
Slang them to the LFS and make that green...
