Not sure how "credit" works. When we had that crzy weather several months ago that screwed up mail I had a package arrive 2 days late. A couple of fish were DOA. They issued me "code" to replace fish.

For the credit issues swf.com should be contacted directly. Mods are in no way affiliated with the retail side of this website. :)

All you have to do is when you order, just enter your email and pass code. Your checkout will show how much you have in credit.
When you applied the amount, if the balance of MERCHANDISE, excluding handling..., is less than $79, you will get a pop-up bar stating you must reduce the applied credit to meet the $79 deal!
Saltwaterfish.com business plan is enviable. With the minimum $79 merchandise purchase, they can't be in the red.
BTW, at LFS, it is true that some has no guarantee. However, you are able to see the sick or healthy livestock. At saltwaterfish.com, you blindly trust them to send you the livestock, thus it is essential for saltwaterfish.com to promote the 15-day guarantee.
Little do we know!

Now the kicker. You can't use the store credit as full payment for your next order.
For ex, my credit is about $165. When I made another order for $135, I was told that I can only use about $55 of my credit. The rest would have to be paid via CC. Apparently there is a $79 minimum MERCHANDISE you must pay. The balance can be paid with issued credit.
To me, that is strong-arming the customer to purchase additional items with misleading guarantee and "store credit".
Think about it. You purchased an item from a local store. Upon return, you were issued a store credit. When you return to purchase, they tell you that you can only use a partial of that because there is a minimum $79 merchandise fee!
The guarantee here is a smoke and mirrors gimmick. I just received an order from here last week. 5 of 10 turbo snails were DOA. Foxface Rabbitfish looked rough and wouldn't eat from day one and died within week. I have shipped back but inverts are not covered under DOA policy and Rabbitfish was not DOA so I only get store credit, which is useless because I have to spend $79 plus $20 "processing" fee and fuel charge. So for the low, low price of $99 I can get my Rabbitfish replaced. Plus the fish was $25 to begin with so by the time I pay the $20 processing and fuel charges; plus my postage back to SWF, I am getting less than $5 real credit toward the fish. That's no guarantee IMO.

lol, its not a gimmick, your just dumb.
anywhere else you shop you're going to have to pay at least $60-$80 for fedex overnight shipping. would you rather just pay that flat out as other websites make you do, or recieve $79 in merchandise, and get your order shipped to you?
if you bought a fish anywhere online and it died, you would have to pay the shipping to have a new fish sent to you. it would be a total loss for companies to send you a new fish and on top of that, pay for the shipping.
and its fedex who is charging the fuel surcharge, not swf.com. you want them to eat that too?

I'm not saying that SWF is doing anything that any other online retailer is not doing as far as the shipping costs. Just because everone else does it or worse does not make it okay. If you guarantee something, guarantee it. It costs no shipping to credit my cc for the purchase price of the dead fish, and I'll still gladly send it back to prove it's dead. All I'm saying is let's be real about what this guarantee really is. $25 dead fish credit minus $10 processing fee minus $10 fuel charge equals $5 net credit. Do the math, the guarantee is really only useful if your whole shipment dies. That's my opinion, you are entitled to yours.

Apparently the mods don't like people dissing SWF because this post has been deleted twice already, but here I go again: The SWF guarantee is a smoke and mirrors sales gimmick. I received a shipment from SWF last week with 5 of 10 turbo snails DOA and my Foxface was in rough shape from day one, never ate, and died within the week. I returned all for my credit. Now I have to make a minimum $79 live goods purchase in order to get free shipping again or pay full cost of shipping. The Foxface was $25. The "processing" fee is $10 and the extra fuel charge is $10. So for the low, low price of $99 I can get their defective item replaced. Of course it may be a while before I can actually use the credit because my tank won't hold another $79 shipment plus the Foxface. So in essence im out of luck. I'm not saying that SWF does it any worse than any other online retailer, but let's be real about what this guarantee really is. At best $25 dead fish credit minus $10 processing fee minus $10 fuel charge equals $5 net credit. A credit to my cc costs no fuel, processing, or shipping. $25 dead fish = $25 credit; that's a real
guarantee.
