raw shrimp to cycle tank

i've read that a tank can be cycled using raw fresh shrimp. i'm trying that on my 6 gal q.t. how long should/can i leave the shrimp in the tank?

thanks cboyfan2020, i wasnt sure if it was a matter of 1 day or one week. i'll do a measurment tommorow.
