Read this if you want to transfer mollies!!!!

Transferring Mollies-
Prep- 5 minutes
Transfer time- 2-6 hours
Materials-
 Something to put the fish in (preferably clear)
 A plastic container to transfer marine water, from the tank, to the container that the fish are in
 An aeration device
 Shelter for the fish
Water-
 ¼ of the container that the fish are to be in should be from the marine tank
 ¾ of the container that the fish are to be in should be from the freshwater tank or the bag that the fish came in
Directions-
 set up the shelter for the fish
 add aeration device to the water
 put the mollies in the container that you have picked out for the fish to be ‘converted’ in
 Add the marine water in the container that you have provided very slowly (!)
 Every 10 minutes take out 1/8 of the water out of the container and add the same amount from the marine tank
 Make sure water temperature is the same in both tanks
 Check to see if specific gravity and all other levels are correct
Congratulations! Your mollies are ready to put in the water.

mine were transfered today and they show no signs of stress. i transfered:
1 all black
1 dalmation lyre tail
1 dalmation
i heard that you can do it with all white hybrids, but ask your lfs before trying

are you guys saying you can make mollies saltwater fish?

I was at my LFS a few days ago and saw that they had mollies and some other FW species in the tanks with SW fish. But the one question I have is why would you do this? Is there any other reason besides saying you can do it? Is there a true benefit to doing it for either the mollies or the SW fish?

kinda, since they used to be fw, it will make them extra hardy!!!!

They can live as long as they want. I personally wouldn't do it, although I have before. They were a waste of tank space. One thing that could be done though is raising them in SW to feed to anglers and the like.

kinda wierd post i know some spiecies of fish can live in both fresh ans salt are mollies one plz clarify this post i would love to have a molly but dont want to torture the poor thing lol

Yeah, mollies are

/sw fish. The ones at the lfs should be fine, of course I used a black sailfin in my tank, but I think most would be ok.

Mollies actually live in brackish water in the wild. So you can acclimate them to live in fresh or marine waters.

well, i heard the same or longer life than in FW, in sw their colors intensify and disease resistance improves. i think that thet are nice because they eat algae!!

if you are sick of them or you need tank space convert them to fw or take 'em back to the lfs.

What kind of algae do these guys eat? Bryopsis, hair, cyano, diatoms?

most kinds, anything remotely appealing. but they like micro and macro algae. i was just informed that you can transfer salfin mollies too.(comes in many colors)
