Ready to give up.

The thing is i don't have a clue what this stuff is. If i had an idea i could probably get better answers. Does anyone have any ideas on how to figure out what it is then maybe we can tackle this? Also i turned off my 2 HOB filters and ran the sump for 2 days and the stuff is still in there. Just wondering if they are so small nothing will filter it out?

i washed it alot before i put in the tank. Tanks has been running for about 5 months. Didn't really notice this stuff when i first started but could of been from a new tank.

just checking up to see how the problem is going, i saw the pic. I wouldnt give up over that, its not so bad!!!
I was imagening this thick cloud of particular mater choking your system

the pic just look really harmless but annoying as f***.
ok, try this.
get a glass, and scoop some out. then watch to see if they are alive.
if they are inanamate particals, look at what color they are.
then report back with your findings.
also, are you running carbon?

Oozy i think you might have helped me found my problem. ( MAYBE ) I read your post and thought to my self ,no affence, ( how the hell can i see if there alive when there that small) and it hit me. I have a magnifying glass try it out. Looking with a magnifying glass there white but seem to be kinda furry, tenticlal looking. Looks like dead whitish microscopic spiders. Hope this helps and i can get to the bottom of it.
Also i wanted to add to the

[hr]
eye they look like little tiny white specs but under the magnifying glass they are spidery looking things.

It's your skimmer.

Ok here is what i did now. I let the cup sit and hooked up my regular light that comes standard with a tank and held the glass right next to the bulb on the floor. I stirred up the glass and looked through the magnifying glass and now it looks like small fibers. Maybe all this stuff is comming from my HBH Polyfiber Filter Pad ? I kinda think this all started when i put this stuff in when i set my tank up with my sump. Is there anything i can buy to take out micro particals, fibers?

you said they looked like little hairy spiders...HAHAHAH that is funny because i said the same thing when my tank was first starting....although i didn't have as many. i was told they are pods...they are a good food for shrimps i guess. did you cycle your tank with natural sea water?

but pods do not float nor do they travell around the tank.
the fibers are a realy good possibility! i wouldnt have thought of that. Not too sure what could take them out besides water changes. Just take the HOB or at least the filter pad out, turn off your powerheads for alittle bit (if you have nothing living in the tank) and syphon out the top layer of water with all the fibers with it. Then just add some more salt water back. youd e killing two birds with one stone, your monthly water changes and getting rid of these little mothers.

They looked like white spider looking things but i think it is a mix of fibers and fiber balls that look like those. I will take out the fiber pad and try and syphon the stuff out. If i can't fix it then i'm going to say screw it and let the tank go. Maybe everything will die and i can start all over.

PROGRESS :cheer:
Do you know anyone with a HOT 250. These filters run with diatomaceous earth that WILL remove something as small as microfibers.
Just a thought. Don't give up, things will be solved soon!

I just gave up on it. I went to the LFS and pretty much seen the same thing i am going through. I don't know if everyone has these specs if you look close, so i just said "Forget it". I am working on ordering some corals to put in the tank to take the eye sight off the white specs. Also fighting this diatom algae wich i would rather live with the specs than this brown crap all over. Just more and more to add to the stress level. I wanted to switch to Sand from CC next weekend but i don't need anymore headaches.
Thanks for your help.
