***** Real Ocean Water vs Distilled Water?

I was looking around online, and I saw that ***** sells ocean water, its $16 per 10 gallons, is that a good price?
Or should I just buy gallons of distilled water from the grocery store at 59 cents a gallon?
55gallon cost:
***** Cost - $97
Distilled Cost - $32 + Cost of Salt?

I personally would NEVER buy anything fish related form *****. check with your local fish store and see if they offer RO water. I pay $.99 for RO water and mix the salt when I get home.

That depends on the size of your tank. I RODI+ salt for my 110 gal FOWLRbut I have my own RODI filtration system. But I use ***** seawater to change my 12 gal nano just because it is easier. Either way, you will need RODI for top-off.

I was thinking of using the ***** water for tops off then. I will check my LFS for water, can I use distilled from walmart? Its only like 59cents a gallon.

I was against the real ocean water stuff at first and then i tried it. It works extremely well for me. Im new to this but all my levels have been safer since i started using it. I say try it. Just my opinion and once again im new to the hobby. One last thing. I only use it for water changes. To expensive for a whole tank.

Really? That is a good price, maybe I will buy a few 5 gallon containers or something.
Can I use any type of filtered water, or should it be like distilled? I was thinking spring water would work, ant that is 25 cents a gallon.

in the long run it is cheaper to buy a RODI unit and make your own water and add salt. Plus you get the added piecce of mind knowing that you control all the factors dealing with your water. Believe me you will run out of water at the absolute worst time and there is nothing like going in the garage and just making some right there on the spot. When you figure in the cost of fuel for the trip and the price of the water, a RODI unit is cheaper and much safer as far as quality.

How much is the average RODI unit? I might get one down the road.

I paid 105 shipped for my RODI unit off the big auction site, had it for about 5 months now and cant be happier. 2 TDS after RO and 0 TDS after DI,
I think most others will run in the 175 range and up for the unit from other places

Do not use ***** natural water for top - off! You can only use highly purified water like RODI for that. If you add saltwater to replace evaporation you will raise the salinity in the tank and it will become uninhabitable.

That is good to know, and makes sense, I did not realize the water that evaporates does not take the salt with it.

Haha, ooops! Yes, I meant salt. So when I do water changes every week, can I use distilled water? I will buy a RODI unit before summer, but for now, what do I use for the water changes?

if you want RO water your LFS should have it. I don't know for sure but I thought I read once that regular distilled water from the grocery was bad

What about the spring water, or the purified water? How much does the LFS usually charge for RO water?
I was going to use tap, but then I checked my water supply, and wow is the quality bad.

at my LFS they charge 50 cents for a gallon RODI water but i think it will vary from 40 cents to a dollar depending on where you go, just give them a call and ask if they have ro or rodi water and what they charge

Just curious...how did you "check" your water? Not sure about pricing, I am a pro-tap fan. Probably the only one on this site, but if people are paying .50 to .99 per gallon of RO water, I am about to become a believer

Outside my grocery store has a ro water dispenser. I get ro/di for $1.40 for 4 gallons. I love it.
Depending on the size of your tank I suppose. Would you not be able to pay for your own unit fairly quickly with these prices? Hold off on changes for 1 month and it's paid for. I change close to 60 gallons a week...that would rack up quickly.
