Real Saltwater!!!

Went to ***** today to pickup some food and I couldn't believe my eyes. They have bagged and boxed Real Pacific Saltwater and are selling it for start up tanks. They didn't know how much it was, which came to no surprise.
"Now all the new Nemo owners can do it the right way."

That is insane. It must be very expensive. And I highly doubt it is of very good quality. It was probably collected in San Francisco Bay right off a dock.

i saw it too. it was selling for $10. im sure it is filtered but synthetic saltwater is of much higher quality than natural seawater. learned that from Conscience Marine Aquarist by Fenner

Seriously though, a big salt water distributor around here - Catalina water collects their water in Long Beach I believe. They just filter it & it's ready for your tank. I was toying with the idea of starting up a local water tank as an experiement. A friend of mine says he does water changes with water pulled straight out of the ocean then dumped directly into his tank. Phyto galore I guess.

You have to be careful with water collected from anywhere near human contact. Most of it contaimanted with alot of silicates that can wreck your tank. I live about 125ft of the water on the gulf coast and do alot of work with the sea lab here and I would not even imagin of using what we have down here in my tank.

i would never put ocean water in my tank i think that is just mad. there is so much bad stuff in the water ( from us ) that can crash a tank and kill every thing in it. with all the money we put in to our tanks a little more for salt is well worth it.

Doh!!!! I'm not Roland for sure He lives way out there! I know OldYellerTang but I'm not him. I do like that benz he drives! LOL!!!

has anyone gave it a shot to see what will come of it or can you get it any smaller then 5gal to do some test on it.
