Once I walked into a Bed Bath and Beyond thinking it was Michaels. I was supposed to pick up my little sister from an art class. I walk around and around and around that store. (At least 10 times) The whole time thinking man Michaels has really changed what it used to be, wasn't it a crafts store. Well this store is more interesting it has cool knives. (Yes that was what I was thinking) Finally I asked, someone hey were are the art lessons, my sister is supposed to be here. Needless to say I got laughed out of the store. (but I am really good at finding BBQ places)

yea this economy is paranoid right now for hiring.
i own a concrete construction company and this is the slowest i have been in 15 yrs.i dont know anyone in my line of work that is busy.
i think once the 2010 elections are done this econemy will pick up pretty fast.
with what the gov't is doing right now is making everyone nervious .dems and gop fighting like crazy and nobody knows what to think.
pretty sad to see older people working younger peoples jobs just to make ends meet.

I know someone with a Masters Degree and makes more money by putting flyers in "nicer" parts of town cleaning houses. Shes very professional (looking and business wise) and does a really good efficient job. Makes 50 bucks an hour doing some cleaning. That's no maid if you ask me.
There are a lot of creative self employment opportunities -- most limitations to me seem to be where we live as my niche of a business dried up when I ran the area out of the resource (and then I spend my extra time with my kiddo and hobbies instead).

been two months or so since I started this thread. Unemployed for a total of 6 months. To date I have sent out a total 287 sets of resumes, including references, letters of recommendation, and samples of my work. I have had 27 phone interviews, filled out 18 questionnaires, I have signed up with three head hunters, and still no job. I do however have an interview for a job in Georgia in a little over a week, they are flying me out for a 5 day interview. I am REALLY hoping this one works out. Im getting married in 5 weeks and they have talked about (if I get the job) working my start date to be the day I get back from the honeymoon, which would be awesome. I dont want to be a newly wed in my parents guest bedroom...

good luck on the new interview! sounds like they are interested if they are spending that much money on you! I am 47 worked since I was 14 , but hirt myself at work 3yrs ago. 5 knee surgeries later.... I am hunting for job's. Actually finding allot of them BUT do to my restrictions now (sedentary duty etc...) nobody wants a "one leg" guy who is still on a Work.Comp case
Dont blame them , but there IS work out there. Same thing here , NOT what I was making or in my field (restaurant biz) but there really are jobs out there ,you just have to be willing to start from the bottom again. I will keep my fingers crossed for you

A few months back I had a potential employer pay over $2500 to fly myself and my fiance to washington state for a 4 day interview, and they didnt end up hiring me. They put us up in a REALLY nice hotel, paid for airfare, got us a rental car, paid for every single meal, and starbucks 2 times a day. And they were not the most wealthy place to be spending that kind of money, so I thought for sure the job was mine, but apparently they thought of it as a total waste cause they didnt end up hiring me.... I hope this new place doesnt come to the same conclusion...
